This is the instructor guide for the DMIP

Learning Objectives

  • Students will learn the stakeholders, influencers, and standards that govern data management in their discipline and their research project.

Required: 

  • Metadata Video from ESIP
  • Metadata PowerPoint from DataOne

Optional: 

  • Metadata: standards, tools, and best practices by USGS (see link below)
  • Chapter 4, section 4 & 5: Metadata and standards from Data Management for Researchers by Briney (not scanned - see in class text)

Pre-Session Prepwork

  1. Download and Review that task worksheet
  2. Begin to aggregate a list of journals, funders, and associations in their discipline. We will use these lists to answer questions in the worksheet. 
  3. It may be helpful to make a list of the analysis, assays, sorftware, and/or types of data you acquire/collect.
