Help with UIC Library Search
Logging In
To access many UIC Library materials you may need to login.
Logging in requires a UIC ID (i-card), even for off-campus users. To sign up for an i-card
- contact the UIC ID Center, with the following information:
- your name
- your university ID number (UIN)
- your email address
- Ask for a “no print” i-card (you won’t receive a physical card; that's OK.)
- Once the ID center processes your request, you may experience a delay (up to a day) before you can access Library materials. In the meantime, you might try looking for materials in Google Scholar
If you continue to have trouble, please contact the Library.
Known Issues
Is the UIC Library Search not loading?
Some patrons have reported difficulty accessing the UIC Library Search, perhaps seeing the "diamonds of doom":
Older browsers
Microsoft Internet Explorer
The UIC Library website is not supported on Internet Explorer. Not even Microsoft supports this browser anymore. Get a new browser!

Older versions of Microsoft Edge (Microsoft Windows 10+) cannot load the UIC Library Search. New versions do work. To fix:
- First, Reset Microsoft Edge. This may resolve some issues. If not, try these steps:
- Update Microsoft Edge to the latest version.
- Repair Microsoft Edge in the Windows settings.
If you cannot resolve this issue, please contact us, and provide as much detail as you can.
