Online & Distance Education Guide: Books & Journals

Learn how to get the most out of your UIC Library as an online or distance education student.


UIC Library provides access to thousands of health science journals online.



For print books, you need an i-Card (UIC Student ID). This can be picked up on-campus. With your i-Card, you have options to borrow books from Non-UIC Libraries: (If you unable to visit campus for your i-Card but want to get one, please contact your home department.)

The library also has access to thousands of online books. Available through a variety of platforms, here is an informational page about the different collections: can search for these items in our catalog by limiting to "electronic resources" and/or "e-books." You may also find e-books or book chapters in some of our databases.

CARLI I-Share Catalog

The CARLI I-Share Catalog shows you items held by other libraries in the CARLI Consortium. However, if you do not have an iCard and/or do not plan to borrow print books from the library, this catalog will not be of much use.
