Searching for Newspapers at Other Libraries

Use the catalogs below to search for Newspapers at other libraries in Illinois and throughout the world. Request runs of newspapers on microfilm or specific newspaper articles using the inter library loan service, ILLiad.

Searching for Newspapers in the Library Catalog

TITLE SEARCHING:

Enter a Journal/Magazine Title search in the library catalog (lableled "Books and More") to search for additional titles available electronically, in print, or microfilm. Or, check the E-Journals list (for electronic newspapers only).

SUBJECT SEARCHING:  Select "Subject Heading" as the search type and enter searches in the following formats (using official Library of Congress Subject Headings)

Examples of Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) for Newspapers:

African American newspapers

Mexican Americans--Illinois--Chicago--Newspapers

Warsaw (Poland)--Newspapers

Paris (France)--Newspapers

BOOLEAN SEARCHING:

Combine search terms with AND and OR. Use ? (truncation symbol) to search for multiple word endings. For example:

newspaper? and (poland or polish)

newspaper? and mexic? 

(soviet or russia?) and newspaper?

NOTE: the above Boolean searches will produce results including both newspapers and books about newspapers
