Fabrication Lab: Terms & Conditions
In order to fabricate objects in the fabrication space, it is recommended that you book a consult in advance. While drop-ins are welcome, priority will be given to patrons who have booked a consultation.
The Lab also offers consultation services to aid with your design.
When requesting fabrication services in the Fabrication Lab:
- You may be asked to scale down the size of your object or to resubmit your design as smaller files.
- For some equipment, you may be required to supply the material in which to fabricate the project. For projects where more than one object will be fabricated, you may be required to supply the material in which to fabricate the project. Materials must meet the specifications specified in the Hub's documentation. To learn more about the preferred file formats and approved materials, please review our documentation.
- Staff reserve the right to not fabricate a project.
- Equipment can only used for academic purposes. You are not permitted to print anything in violation of another’s intellectual property rights. The equipment will not be used to reproduce material that is subject to copyright, patent or trademark protection.
No eating, drinking, or chewing gum.
Consults using Fabrication Equipment
The Fabrication Lab offers consultation services. The consultation is a time to ask questions, have a brief introduction to Tinkercad or other software, and to ensure the viability of your project and the tools and resources we have.
Please do not come to the consultation with the expectation that you will leave with a printed object. Printing can take anywhere from 5 minutes to two days depending on the size, fill and complexity of the object. Other fabrication projects may be in the queue ahead of your project.
- Prior to the consult, if possible, please also submit the .stl file (no larger than 25 MB). In your email, please specify the desired dimensions in mm or inches, the fabrication equipment you expect will be used (3D printer, laser cutter, CNC machine, embroidery machine).
- You may be asked to scale down the size of your object or to resubmit your design as smaller files.
- In some cases, you will be asked to provide the fabrication material.
- Lab employees reserve the right to refuse to fabricate an object.
