Government Sources

US Economic Census covers construction, manufacturing, retailing and services, giving economic statistics for the United States, states, counties, and metro areas. The census is done every five years, with monthly updates for many of the statistics. 

County Business Patterns include the number of establishments, number of employees, and payroll data by NAICS industry code. Some information is also available on the metro and zip code level. 

Bureau of Labor Statistics Measures labor market activity, working conditions, and price changes in the economy.

State of Illinois site includes some unique data, as well as being a good place to find federal data on Illinois.  

Cook County Connect Data portal from Cook County providing ESRI demographic data for Cook County. Can create maps and reports.
