There are two classification systems used to classify business establishments for collecting and analyzing statistical data. Many databases use both. NAIC codes are often more specific, but SIC codes can be used for historical comparisons.
Trade Associations
Many associations provide a great deal of very useful information free on the Web. Typically the information available to non-members is limited, with more in-depth statistics and data provided to subscribers only. But it is still worth doing a Google search.
