About LibKey Nomad

The UIC Library provides a browser extension tool called LibKey Nomad. It can connect you to full-text content from the Library, even when searching beyond the Library's website and databases. It works with the websites or databases PubMed, Google Scholar, and Wikipedia.

The LibKey Nomad browser extension is available on Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, Brave, or Vivaldi. It is only compatible with desktop/laptop browsers, not with mobile- or tablet-based browsers.

Instructions to Install LibKey Nomad

  1. Go to https://thirdiron.com/downloadnomad/
  2. Click “Get LibKey Nomad Now” and select your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, Brave, or Vivaldi).
  3. View the new LibKey tab.*
  4. Select "University of Illinois Chicago Library" to link LibKey Nomad to the library collections and subscriptions.

The LibKey Nomad button, shown below, will now appear in the bottom left corner of your browser whenever you find a journal article.

*You may need to go into browser extension settings for the LibKey Nomad to accept data collection before seeing the option to select your organization.

Using LibKey Nomad

Using LibKey Nomad:

  • If the library has access to the article you are trying to view, LibKey Nomad will show a “Download PDF” button or an “Article Link - University of Illinois Chicago Library” button.
  • If the Library does not have access to the article you want, an “Access Options” button will appear. Clicking this will take you to the article’s Library catalog page where you may request the item using Interlibrary Loan.

Need more assistance, reach out to the Library using the Ask-a-Librarian email service.
