Standards Overview

According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), technical standards:

  • provide a common language to measure and evaluate performance,
  • make interoperability of components made by different companies possible, and
  • protect consumers by ensuring safety, durability, and market equity.

Standard Development Organizations (SDO), such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) or the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), create and update existing standards. ISO encourages users to "think of them as a formula that describes the best way of doing something." Our goal at the University Library is to connect you to the resources you need and we are proud to provide access to the following SDOs:

  • UNE/ISO equivalents
  • ASTM
  • IEEE
  • ISO
  • IEC
