Ancient Health Research Paper

For your ancient health research paper for CL/LING 201, you will need to use at least three outside sources, one of which must be a primary source. A primary source is a source that was created during the time period in question. In this case, that could be an ancient text or some kind of  archeological evidence.

Before you begin your search, you will need to know a little bit about your topic. Do a little brainstorming: What do you already know about your topic? What do you still need to find out? Are there any terms that you need to look up?

Sometimes using a tertiary source, which is a reference source like an encyclopedia or dictionary, can be helpful to gain background information. Take a look at the video below for more information.

Using the Library Search Box

Once you have some terms or titles, you can use the library search box to search for books and articles. In the video below, I will do some known-item searches as well as a keyword search.

Using Other Databases and Finding Primary Sources

There are a number of databases you might want to use to find articles on your topic. Below are a couple of links to videos of demos.

Using JSTOR

Using Bryn Mawr Classical Review

Finding Primary Sources can be tricky. You'll first have to do some reading on your topic to learn the titles of ancient texts. The other option is to search for archaeological evidence, you can do this by adding terms like evidence or archaeology. The video below walks you through a search and also discusses the Loeb Classical Library, which is a collection of primary sources.
