Data Standards Guide

Some federal agencies may require specific data standards for their funding. It is best to check the application and requirements for funding of the specific grant to include those standards when writing your data management plan. 

The NIH contains many subdivisions, with some providing guidance on data standards relevant to their work. 

• National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NMHD) : May require use of PhenX SDOH Toolkit
• National Library of Medicine : Overview on the clinical terminology standards for the NIH
• National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) : Standards relevant to NICHD
• National Cancer institute: Genomic Data Commons (NCI GDC) : Standards relevant to NCI GDC, including information on common data elements, data types and file formats, as well as programmatic interfaces

USGS provides information on relevant data standards that align with their work. 

USGS advises to find relevant standards through the following sites:
