What is Covidence?

Covidence is a web-based tool that will help you through the process of screening your references, data extraction, and keeping track of your work when conducting a systematic review, meta-analysis, or scoping review.

Request an invitation to join UIC's Covidence account. You must use your UIC email address (user@uic.edu) to join UIC's organizational account.

  • If you are new to Covidence: after following the above link to request an invitation, accept the invitation in your email and sign up for a new Covidence account, which will be linked to UIC's organizational account.
  • If you already have a Covidence account: after following the above link to request an invitation, accept the invitation in your email, log in to your existing Covidence account, and you will be linked to UIC's organizational account.

Here is a webinar from Summer 2023 about Covidence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPGuwoh834A
Note: The video is clipped at the beginning and end to remove an interactive activity at the beginning and questions at the end.

What can I do with Covidence?

  • Import references - Covidence works with reference managers like Zotero, RefWorks, EndNote or any tool that support RIS, CSV or PubMed XML formats.
  • Screen title & abstract - Covidence keeps full records of who voted and supports single or dual screeners.
  • Bulk PDF import
  • Screen full text - Capture reasons for exclusion and any notes so you can resolve disagreements.
  • Conduct data extraction - Extract data efficiently with a side-by-side view of your customized data extraction form and PDF. Then, when you are done, easily compare your form with other reviewers.
  • Export - Covidence exports to all the common formats so you can continue your review in your preferred software.
  • Collaborate- You can invite other reviewers (including external colleagues) to work with you on the project.
