Maps Produced By The U.S. Government
The United States government is a significant producer of maps. This guide covers the major types of maps produced and how best to access them in print or online.
Although not produced by the Federal Government, maps produced by the state of Illinois are often sought after by researchers. Of particular interest are historic state highway maps.
View the most recent IDOT highway maps. Available are the Official Highway Maps, Historical Highway Map Collection, General Highway Maps (County, City, and Township maps), and Scenic Byways. Also available are Functional Classification Maps and Average Annual Daily Traffic Maps.

Illinois Public Lands
Information and maps for State Parks can be found through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources website. For county forest preserves, one must visit each county website individually for information; the information provided varies. The Forest Preserve District of Cook County information is provided as an example.
Counties produce a plethora of maps pertaining to such things as elections and taxing districts. The amount of information posted online may vary by county. Cook County is provided here as an example.
