Library Collection Announcements

DynaMed News

As of June 30, 2024, UIC will no longer have an institutional subscription to the point-of-care tool DynaMed.

The University Library recognizes that this cancellation will impact students, faculty, and clinicians in the health sciences colleges and UI Health who use DynaMed. However, after much analysis and consultation, we believe it is the fiscally responsible decision, and we are committed to working with all stakeholders to mitigate any disruption and provide support during the transition.

The Library’s collections budget has remained largely flat even as the cost of resources has increased, so each year we must find ways to reduce expenses. We do so by taking a holistic view of campus needs, usage data, and available resources. In this case, we also consulted with leadership at UI Health and the Colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy, including regional sites.

We recommend the following alternative resources:

  • Essential Evidence Plus: provides clinical evidence-based summaries providing “bottom-line” recommendations to support your decision making. A great source for clinical recommendations in ambulatory and primary care settings.
  • UpToDate: a clinical decision support tool providing a broad range of review topics on diagnosis, treatment and management, and prognosis. Also includes a mobile app.
  • Trip Pro: a clinical search engine designed to find high levels of evidence to support patient care. Search results are ordered by quality and can be filtered by source type. (Requires VPN for off campus access.)

Although UIC will no longer have an institutional subscription to DynaMed, individuals who wish to do so may purchase a personal subscription.

Questions, concerns, or requests for assistance with databases mentioned above can be directed to the liaison librarian for your college or to Carl Lehnen, Head of Collections Management, at clehnen@uic.edu.
