Indexes like American Bibliography of Slavic and East European Studies (ABSEES) and Historical Abstracts help you identify and gain access to journal articles about your topic. Both ABSEES and Historical Abstracts cover academic journals, especially journals that are peer reviewed.
American Bibliography of Slavic & Eastern European Studies (ABSEES) is being renamed American Bibliography of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ABSEEES) to more accurately represent the content within the product. This bibliographic resource provides information on East-Central Europe and the former Soviet Union, with a vast collection of indexed sources, published in the United States and Canada. Coverage for ABSEEES ranges from 1989 to the present.
Our EBSCOhost databases will be moving to a new user interface starting Monday, May 19th, 2025 with the exception of CINAHL which will transition on August 1st.

UIC's Library catalog takes you to books about your topic, both primary and secondary sources, both print and electronic. If UIC does not have a book you need but one of more than 70 Illinois libraries in I-Share has it, you can request it from that other library through the I-Share catalog that is embedded in displays of UIC's catalog.
Secondary sources in book format include monographs that are about a single topic and usually have one author and edited volumes whose chapters are written by different authors and address different aspects of an overarching topic.
Books from other Illinois libraries may be found and requested by selecting All I-Share Libraries.
