The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) requires all grant proposals to include a data management and sharing plan (DSMP). It describes how a proposal will follow NSF policy on managing, disseminating and sharing research results. This guide will provide resources, examples, and tutorials.
A Data Management and Sharing Plan which outlines how scientific data and any accompanying metadata will be managed and shared, taking into account any potential restrictions or limitations.
Budgeting information for the managing, preserving, and sharing data
NSF-funded investigators are expected to share with other researchers, at no more than incremental cost and within a reasonable time, the primary data, samples, physical collections and other supporting materials created or gathered in the course of work under NSF awards.
This is the final data management and sharing policy effective for proposals submitted or due on or after May 20, 2024
This guide provides the requirements for an NSF DMSP. There may be additional requirements for directorates, offices, or specific grants. Researchers should always consult the proposal instructions for additional requirements. See the NSF Directorates' Guidance page more information.
Requires all peer-reviewed scholarly publications resulting from NSF-funded research will be made freely available and publicly accessible by default in the NSF Public Access Repository, or NSF-PAR, without embargo or delay.
