Biography

Abigail Goben, MLS, is a Professor and Data Management Librarian at the University of Illinois Chicago, where she additionally serves as the Data Policy Advisor for the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. Goben teaches coursework in data management, clinical informatics, information and data literacy, and evidence-based medicine.

Research

My scholarly activity currently focuses on research data management education; emerging and evolving research data policies; strategic planning for data services for academic institutions; mid-career data librarianship; academic research data governance; identifying accessibility needs for data set reuse and preservation; and a ten-year retrospective of data librarian job ads.

Past projects include he creation of the ACRL Research Data Management Roadshow curriculum and the IMLS funded DataDoubles project, a US-based study examining undergraduate student perceptions of student privacy and library participation in learning analytics. 

Librarianship

I am the course creator and instructor for LIB 573: Introduction to Research Data Management, which provides a foundational background in RDM and provides opportunities for students to engage with data across disciplinary boundaries. Past coursework includes Evidence Based Practice instruction for the College of Dentistry for pre-doctoral and the advanced standing dental degrees and instruction in several informatics programs.
