Data Use Agreements

A Data Use Agreement (DUA) is a legal agreement between two or more parties that outlines the terms and conditions for the sharing, use, and protection of data.

At a minimum a DUA outlines
  1. Who can access the data and under what circumstances
  2. Establish a clear explanation of the specific purposes for which the data can be used
  3. Define confidentiality and data security measures to protect the data
  4. Establish the rights and obligations of each party
  5. Duration of agreement and when data must be returned or destroyed
You can open a direct link to a UIC Data Transfer and Use agreement sample template.
The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) also has the template posted here.
