Biography

Sandy De Groote joined the University of Illinois at Chicago University Library in 1998 as a health science librarian.  She worked at the Library of the Health Science Peoria as the Assistant Health Sciences Librarian and as an Information Services Librarian at the Library of the Health Sciences Chicago.  In 2009,  Sandy became the library's first Scholarly Communications Librarian. 

Sandy earned her M.L.I.S. and her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario. She is a member of the Medical Library Association, the Academy of Health Information Professionals, and the American Library Association.

Research

My research has focused on the impact of online resources on the use of the library resources and assessing online information systems.

Librarianship

As the Scholarly Communications Librarian, I oversee UIC's Institutional Repository - INDIGO and Journals@UIC, an online journal publishing service. Other areas of interest and responsibility include author rights, copyright, research impact, assessment, bibliographic management, evidence based medicine, informatics, data management, data and text mining and visualization, and digital scholarship. 

Service

Currently, I am chair of the Faculty Senate Academic Services Committe and serve on the Faculty Senate Research Committee.  I am also on the Research Advisory Committee.

I serve as an Editorial Advisor with Evidence Based Library and Information Practice.
