UIC Library Faculty Profile: Felicia Barrett, Regional Head Librarian and Associate Professor: About

The Faculty Profile will provide information about the faculty member's interests in research, teaching and service.

Felicia Barrett is the Regional Head Librarian for the Crawford Library of the Health Sciences in Rockford.  She is responsible for all aspects of management with emphasis on user support, outreach, information and instructional services, information access, information technology, and collection development.  She previously was the Assistant Health Sciences Librarian at the Crawford Library in Rockford where she provided library instruction and reference services to faculty, staff, students and the general public.

In her previous position at Indiana University School of Medicine Library, Barrett was the Associate Librarian.  She was the library director and coordinator for the Northwest Indiana Health Sciences Librarian Consortium.  She was involved with the Indiana Area Health Education Centers which was funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health.  Through this grant she provided library instruction to health care professionals in rural Indiana.

Barrett received her Master's in Library Science in 1997 and her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1995 both from Indiana University.  She is a member of the Medical Library Association, Midwest Chapter of the Medical Library Association and the Health Sciences Librarian Association of Illinois.

Felicia Barrett's research has focused on two areas related to regional libraries.  The first is comparing the use of print versus electronic resources at a regional health sciences library.  The second is an investigation of issues that are specific to the unique setting of a rural library within the local community.  Currently, she is focusing on examining roles the health sciences librarian plays in the systematic review process.

Felicia Barrett's primary role of providing information services is a vital component of the library.  Her goal is to continue to provide excellent service to the faculty, students, and staff of UIC and to the health care professionals and general public in the Rockford community.

Felicia Barrett has a strong commitment to serving the library profession and the University, which is deplayed in her continued support and work on many committees.  Such service has provided opportunties to develop her leadership skills, learn from other librarians, and give something back to the profession.  In the service activities she has been involved with over her career, she has always tried to create a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
