Deborah Lauseng is an Assistant Professor and the Regional Head Librarian for the UIC Library of the Health Sciences in Peoria (LHSP). She is responsible for the leadership and management of library resources and services to the Colleges of Medicine and Nursing in Peoria, including access and information services, liaison librarian engagement, curriculum-integrated instruction, electronic and print collections, and community outreach.
Lauseng came from the Taubman Health Sciences Library at the University of Michigan where she as the Assistant Director for Academic and Clinical Engagement. There she led the integration of informationists across medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, public health and the clinical departments within the University Hospital. She also served as lead nursing informationist to the School of Nursing. Previous positions at the University of Michigan included reference and instruction coordinator and public health librarian. Lauseng also worked as an assistant librarian for five years at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI.
Lauseng received her AMLS from the University of Michigan School of Library & Information Science, and her BS in Biology/Sociology from Adrian College, Adrian, MI. She is a member of the Medical Library Association (MLA), as well as a member of the Midwest Chapter of MLA and the Health Sciences Librarians of Illinois.
Deborah Lauseng has diverse research interest, including: the process of decision making by library administrators; the use of assessment in administrative decision making; best practices for internal organizational communication; library involvement and engagement with interprofessional education; and evolving liaison and informationist roles in academic health sciences settings.
Deborah Lauseng is focused on leadership of the Library of the Health Sciences - Peoria (LHSP) and in addressing the information needs of students, faculty, clinicians, staff, and researchers affiliated with the Colleges of Medicine and Nursing in the Peoria area through liaison engagement and partnerships.
Lauseng serves as library liaison to these specific College of Medicine Peoria departments: Emergency Medicine, Health Sciences Education, Medicine, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Surgery. She has a Clinical Associate appointment within Health Sciences Education.
Deborah Lauseng actively participates in professional service within the University, as well as at the regional and national level as evidenced by her committee involvement and leadership commitments.
Additionally Lauseng serves on the Editorial Board of Implementation Science, an open access, peer-reviewed online journal.
