Reopening Details for UIC Libraries

This guide is to keep people updated on requirements for entering the library Fall 2020

Requesting Accommodations

Before You Come to the Library

If you need an accessible computer or table, please reserve one directly in the reservations system.  All accessible stations should be labeled according to the available assistive technologies.

If you require specific assistance from library staff, please inform us ahead of time by emailing lib-ref@uic.edu with desired assistance. Some examples below:

  • If you read lips, please ask staff at the desk to switch to a clear mask
  • If you require a staff member to escort you to your reserved seating area, please inform us ahead of time
  • If you need priority access to an elevator for mobility purposes, please inform us ahead to time

Services at the Library

If you require assistance from library staff members, please use the chat with a librarian service or speak to the library health ambassadors.

Services for People Who Cannot Come to the Library

We are encouraging people who are immunocompromised or who live with immunocompromised people to avoid coming into the library.  We will do what we can to help you access library services through low contact pickup or remote services.  Please contact lib-ref@uic.edu to inquire about potential services.

If you cannot wear a mask, we cannot accommodate you within library buildings for public health reasons, but we will do what we can to help you access library services through low contact pickup or remote services.  Please contact lib-ref@uic.edu to inquire about potential services.
