Library Faculty Mentoring Program

Executive Committee

Per the Faculty Bylaws, the Executive Committee oversees the mentoring program.

The Executive Committee will:

  • Match mentors and mentees, honoring suggested matching requests, when possible. EC will ensure responsibilities are assigned as equitably as possible.
  • Publish and update the Library’s mentoring program on the library’s website.
  • Maintain a list of available mentors for new hires or individuals who wish to obtain a new mentor. The list should be updated to reflect available mentors when potential mentors are promoted or hired or a mentor becomes available through reassignment or the resignation of a mentee.
  • Ensure that the library’s mentoring policies are clearly communicated to all faculty members.
  • Ensure new mentors receive mentor training each year, either through the campus or internally, through the Library.

UL and P&T Chair Responsibilities

  1. The UL and P&T Chair will meet with P&T candidates and the candidates' mentor during 1Y to discuss the process of tenure and promotion.
  2. The UL and P&T Chair will review procedures and requirements in-depth so that the candidate understands what information they need to collect (portfolio of accomplishments documenting service and research, appropriate amount of teaching evaluations if he or she has instruction responsibilities).
  3. The UL and P&T Chair will also review the norms for promotion and tenure. The UL and P&T Chair will stress the importance of creating a unified body of work.
