Biography
My first position at UIC was Director of the Visual Resources LIbrary/Slide Library in the College of Architecture and the Arts. Previous to that, I worked in a related capacity at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and earned a MS degree in Library and Information Science from there in 1997. With the transition to digital images, Visual Resources was integrated into the Daley Library in 2009, and I currently hold the position of Visual Resources Librarian here.
I also hold a M.A. in Art History from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a B.A. (Honours) from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
Professional Duties and Librarianship
I serve as Liaison Librarian for the School of Architecture and Department of Art History. In addition to liaison work with faculty, I am responsible for collection development for Architecture, Art History, and Photography subject areas.
As Visual Resources Librarian, I am involved with a number of digitization projects with the library's Digital Programs Department, including metadata creation and training and supervision of student employees. I also provide reference assistance, both at the Reference Desk and individually for my subject areas, including image research, and serve as the library's institutional contact for the ARTstor digital image database.
My research interests include visual literacy, discovery and access of digital image collections, and resource sharing. I am also interested in Fair Use as it applies to the use of images in the higher education environment.
